San Nicolás provides a secure forest refugia and green corridor for animals large and
small as well as a growing forest area as a result of a concentrated reforestation project
that has been planted with thousands of trees. Native seeds are sourced locally and grown first in the San Nic greenhouse where they are cared for during the dry season. Once the rainy season begins in early summer, the seedlings are planted where needed and gps’d to maintain a reforestation map. Iconic forest species are joined also by fruit species like
ciricote that provide food for both birds and mammals who then help spread the
digested seeds via defecation.
